The Life of Florence Nightingale vol 1 of 2 eBook Edward Tyas Cook
Nightingale was amazing and scary bright. Her quotes are of the ages. These books go on and on and I did do some speed reading and flat out skipping BUT - never - stopped as her life story is just too compelling. It is not a simple tale and one can understand why the author has all this material. For one thing, Nightingale stayed up all night writing - often and there are volumes of diaries and correspondence. She knew everybody and kept in touch with everyone. The times of he work were historically complicated. Not a quick read. I thought the author did a good job of presenting a warts and all picture of a driven woman who broke many barriers and improved all our world.Product details

The Life of Florence Nightingale vol 1 of 2 eBook Edward Tyas Cook Reviews
I couldn't put it down. Truly riveting!
While this book is more 'how to' than anything else, it clearly and succinctly details a life ahead of her time. Excellent read!
Never resive it
A very complete and detailed coverage of the life of Florence Nightingale!!
Probably not something the average person will want to dig into, but if you are a history buff, a Florence Nightingale fan, or heavens forbid, both, this is a great biography. Large sections are taken from source materials, her writing and letters.
Firstly, it is readable. Secondly, it draws extensively from Miss Nightingale's own correspondence. Thirdly, it does NOT seek to add to the Nightingale mythos. You get to meet a person. Yes, there are limits due to the age it was written in, but these are negligible. Be warned, this is a big book, NOT a slim, introductory volume.
Florence Nightingale is one of my absolute favorite people, and for me this book was amazing. It was written in 1913, 3 years after her death so you know its going to be a much more realistic perspective with her real friends and family as sources for the author to draw on. I love the old language. If you're not a huge Nightingale fan, this is probably going to be a little dry for you. There is so. much. detail! Also, if you have ever worked in a hospital, especially military, or any other health care facility this will hold a little more interest. Again, I adored this! If you want to feel transported and get a real black and white factual view of Miss Nightingale, this is the book for you!
